Age: 41
Hometown: Chatham, Ontario
Miles Run Per Week: 45-60
Currently Training For: I’m training for USATF XC Club Nationals with my amazing Mountain West friends and teammates. We have enough women for a masters team! I also might do some indoor track races this winter season.
Favorite Place To Run: My favourite place to race is the DN Galan meet in Stockholm. The city is beautiful, we were able to race in the 1912 Olympic stadium, the meet was always sold out, I always had a good race and when we ate after the meet at midnight it was still light! Locally, I’m partial to the Turkey Day 8k race but I think the Missoula Mile is my favourite. It’s a family event, the kids & my husband get to run, and I have all my running friends and family together. Plus it’s only a mile:)
Favorite Running Memory: I have two favourite memories. The first is that I got to run with my Dad and more importantly I got to have a 12 year career that allowed me to spend a lot of time with him. He traveled to many of my races and, whether it was a good or bad race, he’d always be there at the end with a hug and a smile.
Favorite Running Memory #2: My best racing memory is getting 8th at the World Championships in Paris and breaking the Canadian 5k record. In that moment, I knew that if I did nothing else in my career, I had accomplished my goals and that all the hard work had all come together at the right place and the right time.
Favorite Running Quote: “Whatever your mind can believe and conceive, it can achieve” used to be my training motto. The mind is a powerful thing. Now it’s about having fun! I love to run and I love to be able to run with my friends. I feel so lucky to live in a place where everyday is a different and beautiful run. And there’s always something positive to be taken from a run whether it’s a time improvement, feeling stronger on the hills, getting to be outside, spending time with friends, or just finishing. It’s all good!
We are sure most of you know Courtney from seeing her run around town or coach Tuesday Track. A special thanks to Courtney for her hard work on putting together the biggest Turkey Day 8k so far!
